I believe the campus of RCC Riverside is far from green. There are often plumbing leaks that waste gallons and gallons of water, the school has not invested in solar energy, and as far as i know, none of the paper thrown away on the campus is recycled. I believe that one of UCR's buildings uses solar panels to power it's electricity, so that's one step more than RCC has taken to go green. I also read an article on how UCR was given a 2 million dollar award to power electric vehicles with sunlight.
Riverside gets plenty of sun year round- especially in the summer. My plan to help RCC become more environmentally friendly would be to install solar panels on major buildings such as the library, quad, and Martin Luther King building. During the summer the solar panels could power some of the electricity requirements for lighting and air conditioning, saving money and electricity for the school. I would compare electricity bills prior to solar panel installation to confirm that electricity was saved. If I wanted this plan to take action I would go to the Environmental club and propose my plan to save energy for the school. They then would take the plan to the big-wigs running RCC and convince them that my plan is foolproof. Then RCC would have solar powered buildings and we would all live happily ever after.

Blog Assigment #2
I chose to sit on a bench at White Park close to RCC for this assignment. I observed plants, trees, and birds. The small plant life consisted mostly of grass and shrubs. There were mostly pepper trees, palm trees, and young sapplings I couldn't identify. Most of the birds were common sparrows, pigeons, and crows. I noticed most of the relationships plants and animals had were related to man; birds drank from water fountains in the park and ate food that was left behind by people. People often say not to feed wild animals so they leave and don't come back. Or that if people feed them, they'll forget how to look for food on their own. I believe that people are obligated to take care of the animals since they no longer have a natural habitat to sustain them because it was taken over by people. The plantlife was also sustained by people. Without gardeners to water and prune the plantlife in the park, they would die quickly because they are not in their natural habitat. This brings me to the conclusion that wildlife needs people to protect it because it cannot survive on its own while humanity still exists and influences the planet.
